Rainy Day in Charleston

Rainy Day in Charleston

Drove from Wilmington to Charleston Tuesday with Josh Weathers and Justin Barfield to do some skating and shoot photos. A visit to Square One was well overdue. When we got into town everything was wet so we went straight to the park, where we were of course welcomed with hospitality by John Dixon. Square One has come a long way in a short time, watching the progress in photos and montages has been interesting, and seeing it in person you can really smell the potential in every corner. It’s amazing what a small collection of skateboarders can accomplish when they unify for a common purpose.

We were lucky enough to get a small window of opportunity for street skating as the clouds opened up. Will Gaskins and Ben Bertauski came out with us as tour guides. Will almost killed us with his brilliant navigation skills. A few times. The first place we went, and really the only place we were able to spend any dry time, was this foundation spot that used to be amazing until someone bulldozed much of the DIY tranny, but was still cool even after being busted up. Ben Bertauski landed a clean front 180 and snapped his board on a back 180. Josh Weathers was coming stupid close to fakie treflips unitl the rain started coming down.

Fortunately there was a pretty impressive spot we were able to skate under the highway during the rain. I’d seen this spot in a bunch of photos and montages, but had never been there in person. There was significant leakage coming in from the sides, but plenty of random dirty carpet laying around to soak up just enough to skate. I’m sure at least one homeless person is going to have to find something else to sleep on. Whoever you are, I apologize, but rest assured that your sacrifice contributed to Will Gaskin’s crook and Josh Weathers’ overcrook.

Capped the night off with another Square One sesh. A Handful of hometown heros were in attendance, and the crowd was thin enough to set up some external flashes.

I was basically curious about if you ever thought of switching the layout of your site? Its well written; I really like what you have got to say. But maybe you could create a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of wording for only having one or two images. Maybe you can space it out better?

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
